Lake Junaluska, Iron Duff, Crabtree, Fines Creek, Luck, Trust and Spring Creek, NC

I traveled from Lake Junaluska to Spring Creek, North Carolina (29 miles)  on Highway 209,  the highway is part of the “Ride the Rattler”.  Beautiful rugged mountains and peaceful valleys and of course lots of curves.

Lake Junaluska, NC

Lake Junaluska is named after the Cherokee Indian Chief Junaluska.  It is the site of the headquarters of the World Methodist Council. Lakeshore Drive circles the lake.

IronDuff is in Haywood County.  No town, the area is farmland and few homes.  Dawn Branch river runs through the community.

Fines Creek, NC

Fines Creek was originally called Crystal Creek, later the settlement was called Twelve Mile Creek, it was in the early 19th century that Fines Creek Township got its name.  It was named for Major Peter Fine. The community is in Haywood County.

Ferguson Supply and Fines Creek Café – James Ferguson is the 3rd generation to run the store, the grandparents started the school in 1919. They have basic grocery needs, paint, plumbing, farming gloves, etc.

Trust is an unincorporated community in Madison County. the community spreads along the adjacent Spring and Friezeland creeks, north of Luck.

Spring Creek is an unincorporated community in Madison County.

During the 1920’s local farmers donated the land, hauled the rock and built the school. The building was abandoned in 1989. In March of 1999 it became the Community Center. The Community Center has a library and Dave’s Restaurant.  The quilt on the front of the building is part of the quilt trail.

Dave’s 209 Restaurant is in the Community Center it offers burgers, fries, shakes, etc. 13075 NC Hwy 209
